Talent Strand

Legal and Compliance recruitment

You need legal and compliance people who can read the room and the regulations. Talent Strand fills those roles on your payroll, from entry-level paralegals to general counsel, in every U.S. state.

The market for these roles stays tight. Healthcare systems, banks, manufacturers and software companies compete for the same licensed professionals. In-house counsel often need active bar admission in the state where they practice. Some states offer limited admission for in-house lawyers who passed the bar elsewhere. Paralegals with experience in e-discovery, contract management or regulatory filings are in short supply. A compliance officer who knows HIPAA, BSA/AML or state privacy rules like the CCPA draws multiple offers. Employers who move slowly lose candidates to competitors.

Hiring goes wrong when the job posting lists every regulation but not the actual work. You screen for credentials and miss the person who cannot explain how a new law changes a vendor contract. The most avoidable misstep is writing a job description that demands ten years of experience, three licenses and five software systems, yet says nothing about the daily decisions the person will face or the managers they will support. A contract manager may look strong on paper but fall apart in a negotiation with a difficult supplier. The rush after an audit or regulator letter narrows the pool even further.

How candidates are assessed

You get candidates who have already been screened for the bar status your state requires. We verify licenses against state bar records and check disciplinary histories. For compliance roles we confirm the specific frameworks the person has worked with, such as HIPAA, OSHA, SOX, BSA/AML or state privacy laws. We test applied skills through short exercises: drafting a contract clause, responding to a mock regulatory inquiry or explaining a prior audit. We also confirm employment dates, education and any relevant certifications, because a compliance officer's credibility depends on a clean record, precise history and the ability to explain every gap without evasion. References are asked about judgment under pressure, handling confidential information and working with business teams under deadlines.

Questions employers ask

Do you only place lawyers who are admitted in our state?

For in-house counsel roles we confirm bar admission in the state where the work happens. Some states have limited admission rules for in-house lawyers who passed the bar elsewhere, and we check that option when it fits. Paralegals and compliance officers do not need bar admission, but we verify certifications and work history.

What levels of legal and compliance roles do you fill?

We fill roles from entry-level paralegals and compliance analysts to general counsel and chief compliance officer. Every person goes onto your payroll as a full employee. That is the only way we work.

How do you keep a legal or compliance search confidential?

We can run the search without naming your company until you choose to move forward. Candidates sign confidentiality agreements before they receive details. References are contacted only with your approval and the candidate's permission.

What does a compliance officer actually need to know?

The answer depends on your industry. Healthcare employers need HIPAA knowledge; banks need BSA/AML experience; public companies need SOX controls. We map the specific laws, reporting lines and regulators before we start the search.
